TEACHER'S INTRODUCTION

Hello LC partners!! Greeting from western part of Kenya!!

My name is Kanako Sugai. I am a Japanese volunteer who has been sent by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) to teach computer study and assist computer maintenance and repairing to Chavakali High School.

I’ve been in this school for about 2 years. I speak Swahili language. I like Ugali which is Kenyan traditional food.  I like people in Kenya. Their hospitality never let me feel homesick! I am really enjoying life in Kenya!

I’ve been also teaching Japanese language to students who wants to learn. 2 students, Bavon Ngura and   Marvin Gichaga (They are also joining GTP LCs) will participate in Japanese Speech contest on 25^th February in Nairobi.

In Japan, I used to work for RICOH company, Ltd. as an engineer for 6 years. I was belonging to a team which has developed Wireless LAN LSI. I used to go surfing on the weekend. Kenya has really beautiful ocean but unfortunately there is no waves for surfing! I also like traveling. I’ve visited over 10 countries. I think the next destination will be South America, which I have never reached.

My Students will be using school computers which are not really good performance. I will be using my laptop and also a projector when we want to share the information you’ve posted.

We are participating in this project with ICT club so we work on it only after class. We normally have meeting every Wednesday at 16:00. Since this school is boarding school, students finish remedial at 20:00. I am staying in the school compound so we can meet from 20:00.

SCHOOL DESCRIPTION

Our School is called Chavakali High School. It’s located in the western part of Kenya. It has been a provincial school but has been upgraded to a national school. It has one thousand and sixty students and is a boarding school. It has four grades but in every grade we have six streams making the total classes to be twenty four. We normally have recreation on Saturday from 1.00pm up to 6.00pm which includes listening to music, watching movies, playing rugby, table tennis and badminton. The School has a school anthem which is usually sung on parade on Monday and Friday. Our School in many ways because it is the best in music festivals’ football and rugby

ICT CLUB  INTRODUCTION

Halo you are all welcome to GTP project. This is I.C.T club found at Chavakali School; it was introduced at School in the 2006. It deals mainly with technology, conserving the environment and also promoting young news reporters through PEARL. The leader of the group is called Elphic Tossi. He is leading a group of more than twenty members .We are grateful to participate in  this project being our third time to participate in this project. This time we are going to deal with three topics one being the 21st century, millennium development goals and finally environmentally sustability.We welcome you all and hope we will exchange our ideas to improve the status of the world.
